5 top tips to keep cool at night

/live/blogs/woman sleeping blog.jpg

Today is set to be the hottest of the year and while the sun makes everything look more beautiful, the heat can lead to an uncomfortable night of tossing and turning.

Fortunately (or unfortunately for some), Britain doesn’t encounter many nights of insufferable temperatures but that’s short consolation as you’re craving a cool side of the pillow at 3am.

But relax, Lee Longlands has got five top tips to help you beat the heat when you hit the hay tonight.

  • Before you lay your head down a great idea is to cool down to start with. Applying ice or cold water to pulse points such as wrists, neck, elbows, groin, ankles, and behind the knees is a technique used in countries with raging heat.
  • No-one wants to live in darkness but having curtains or blinds shut during the day keeps the sun out and reduces your room’s temperature.
  • Lightly sprinkling/spraying water on your bed sheets before you sleep will help cool your body down as you drift off to sleep.
  • Ditch the duvet.  Use a thin cotton sheet -  if anything at all -  to cover you as you sleep.
  • Take a hot water bottle to bed. No seriously, but instead of hot water fill it with cold water and ice and hug it like a long lost friend.

With these tips, you should find yourself enjoying the rare heat that we often feel cheated out of a summer without.

Speaking of achieving a perfect night’s sleep, why not take a look at our range of high quality beds and mattresses for unbeatable comfort, so you can wake up feeling fresh and rested, whatever the weather.
