Why should you choose a 4 seater sofa?

There are plenty of good reasons to choose a 4 seater sofa.

First, there’s the obvious benefit – more seating for family and friends!  This offers more space for bigger families and allows you to entertain more guests comfortably.  Plus it’s a good alternative to a corner sofa.

A 4 seater is also worth considering if you want to add seating to a very large room, such as a big living room or an orangery.  The average 3 seater can be dwarfed by a room with expansive dimensions, whereas a four seater is more likely to suit the proportions of the room.

It’s also a good choice for making an impression.  A boldly coloured or big patterned contemporary sofa or an imposing traditional sofa dominates the room with its dimensions, colour and style.

What are the different styles of 4 seater sofa?

4 seater sofas are available in a wide selection of styles and with many different options, allowing them to meet a whole host of requirements.

Traditional 4 seater sofa

Traditional style sofas ooze authenticity thanks to their classic features.  For scroll arms, aniline leathers, button backs and turned legs, look no further.  Traditional sofas offer an unrivalled aesthetic of sophistication.

Scatter back 4 seater sofa

A 4 seater scatter back sofa has a tactile feel and a colourful appearance, often including a variety of cushion fabrics in contrasting textures and hues.  It’s also highly comfortable, though it requires a little bit of plumping to keep it looking and feeling its best.  Scatter backs can be fun, glamorous and/or a great twist on a more traditional design.

Contemporary 4 seater sofa

Contemporary style sofas may use straight arms, lower backs and a square shape to appear more compact.  This straight shape limits the space the sofa takes up in the room while maximising the seat space available.

Most at home in modern surroundings, a contemporary 4 seater sofa looks great paired with a marble or wood veneer coffee or lamp table.  Sharp, sleek monochrome colours – black, white and grey – are common choices because they are brilliantly suited to such surroundings.

Examples of this style include the Natuzzi Editions sofas, some of which are available as recliners.

Classic 4 seater sofa

Classic styles showcase gorgeous retro style features.  Rounded backs, velvets and tapered gold legs are current, adding plenty of vintage glamour to your lounge.  Intricate classic style details such as button backs and hand studding are also common finds among this selection.

What fabrics are available?

There are various kinds of 4 seater leather sofa available, featuring top grain, semi-aniline and aniline leathers.

  • Aniline leathers are very much sought after and are as such the most expensive.  They are an excellent choice for anyone who wants a one-of-a-kind sofa, since insect bites and other leather imperfections and uneven colouration give every aniline sofa a unique look.
  • If you would prefer something for a modern home that has an even colour all over, something that requires minimal maintenance, or a cost effective leather option, then top grain is probably the option for you.
  • Finally, semi-aniline falls in between these two options, offering uniqueness with a small amount of protection.

There are also several kinds of 4 seater fabric sofa.

  • Plain fabrics are great for a simpler appearance, with bold colours and velvets being popular for classic contemporary sofas like the Lottie and the Toni.
  • Big botanical patterns offer impact and a sense of opulence, while damasks provide a more traditional look.

You can also acquire sofas in a combination of fabric and leather, fusing classic leather styling with warm, soft and cosy fabric seating.

If your sofa places style or making an impression over comfort, it’s best to use it for a room that’s for entertaining, rather than for everyday use.  For sofas that are going to be used frequently, it’s wise to select a comfortable sofa in a dark, neutral or softer colour that’s easy to relax around, such as a dark blue, cream, beige or grey 4 seater sofa.

For family homes and homes with pets, selecting a sofa that can withstand or at least mask the strains of everyday life will allow you to get the most for your money.  For fabric sofas, something in a dark blue or medium grey will help to conceal stains left behind from spills, while a colour that matches the fur of your pet will make hairs less visible.  A top grain leather may also be a suitable choice, being the easiest material to clean.

How long is a four seater sofa?

Since no two sofa ranges are the same, it is impossible to offer a definitive answer here.  A 4 seater sofa can be anything from around 220cm long to as long as 280cm!

On the whole, a modern sofa will have larger dimensions while a more traditional style sofa is likely to have smaller dimensions.  However, although some styles may on average be larger than others, there are plenty of exceptions to the rule.  Some ranges even come with extra large proportions.  As such, it’s important to double-check the dimensions of any sofa before purchasing to avoid any problems upon delivery.

The length of the sofa is not the only dimension to consider – depth is also important.  Although it’s true that you should consider the width and depth in order to ensure your new purchase will fit through doorways upon delivery, it’s worth thinking about comfort as well.

A very tall person may benefit from a high or extra deep sofa, as this will provide plenty of space for longer legs.  A smaller person, on the other hand, may prefer a shallower or lower sofa so that they are able to benefit from the backrest rather than perching on the edge or finding that their feet don’t quite reach the floor.  When your sofa is the incorrect size for your stature, your posture may suffer, potentially leading to unpleasant side effects such as back pain, so it’s important to select the right size for you.
