In a state-of-the-art factory on the outskirts of Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, Ercol’s expert craftsmen handmake each piece of furniture from solid oak, elm, beech and ash. The brand was founded in 1920 by Lucian Ercolani, with a vision to design and create the finest living room and dining room furniture using natural materials. This much loved brand has been featured at the Festival of Britain in 1951, the Queens Silver Jubilee Exhibition in 1977 and the V&A Museum during the London Design Festival in 2009. To this day, Ercol is known for its combination of quality craftsmanship, elegant design and functionality. Their classic bar stools, dining chairs, coffee tables and more furniture from their mid-century living room and dining room collections are still popular with customers today, and they continue to deliver to these high standards in their newer collections.
Back in 1899, James Marshall invented the revolutionary pocket spring mattress to provide the utmost comfort for his wife who was taken ill. Vispring was founded 2 years later, 1 year before the first Lee Longlands showroom opened its doors. These bedmakers still build all their divans and mattresses by hand, using only the finest fillings and Vanadium steel springs. Associated with premium and luxury, Vispring has had partnerships with legendary English vessels from the Mauretania to the Queen Elizabeth II, and most recently with the Plymouth-based yacht builder, Princess Yacht. In 2012, Vispring was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
Parker Knoll was founded in 1931, but the story of Frederick Parker and Sons dates back to 1869. Originally handcrafting the finest chairs for Victorian gentry, Parker Knoll went on to furnish most of the rooms and studios at the BBC headquarters in 1932, provide the chair in which King Edward VIII abdicated the throne and was involved with manufacturing aircraft during WWII. In 1996, the brand was named the Number 1 Furniture Brand in the UK. Parker Knoll today is still a much loved brand in England, handcrafting their iconic sofas and chairs from the finest materials to offer style, class and comfort in the homes of their customers. In both leather and fabric, Parker Knoll produce a range of classic sofas, armchairs, wing chairs and recliners.
A favourite amongst the royals, Hypnos has held a Royal Warrant since 1929, meaning for 89 years, they have supplied the Royal Family and Royal Household with mattresses, divans and bespoke upholstery. Founded in 1904, the brand continues to be a family-run business today with chairman, Peter Keen, being the fourth generation to run the business. Hypnos has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade, the Royal Seal of Approval, the Manufacturing Guild Mark and Bed Manufacturer of the Year 3 times.
